What is Hashtag?
A clickable topic tag that categorizes a post and lets members follow the subject.
A hashtag is a word or phrase prefixed with #, which LinkedIn turns into a clickable topic link. Clicking one shows a feed of posts using the tag, and members can follow hashtags to see tagged content in their feeds. In practice their power on LinkedIn has faded over the years: the platform has dialed back hashtag-centric features, and tags are best treated as light categorization rather than a distribution engine. Sensible use is a few relevant, specific tags that describe the post's actual topic, placed at the end where they do not interrupt reading. Stuffing a post with a dozen broad tags looks spammy and does not manufacture reach; the content itself and the early engagement it earns do the distributing. Two cases still justify deliberate tagging: a niche tag your industry genuinely follows, used consistently, and a branded tag that groups a series you publish so readers can pull up the whole run in one click.
